Six figured settlement for a cyclist knocked over by a car

The cyclist approached a junction when she was knocked of her bicycle

The cyclist was cycling southbound along Fitzjohns Avenue, London towards Swiss Cottage. As she approached the junction with Belsize Lane the Defendant turned into her path from the right hand side causing her to be knocked of her bicycle.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries

The cyclist suffered a serious injury to her radius and ulnar which resulted in significant bone loss. She underwent fixation surgery on her arm. The cyclist also sustained a fracture to her toe and significant bruising. The injury impacted on the cyclists hobbies and they ultimately decided to stop cycling.

The insurance initially blamed the cyclist and then attempted to offer a small amount

The insurance initially blamed the cyclist as she was filtering through the traffic and she should have known that a car would be turning. The insurance company failed to acknowledge that the Defendant lost control of the van after colliding with the cyclist and crashed into a wall causing serious structural damage. The insurance company attempted to settle the claim for a small nominal amount which would not have covered the value for the cyclists injuries.

Laura arranged several reports from medical experts

Laura arranged reports from several medical experts including a specialist upper limb surgeon and a Consultant Psychiatrist to build up a full picture of the cyclist’s injuries and prognosis. The cyclist was suffering from ongoing restrictions in her arm movement. While she was able to hold down a full time job she would be restricted in household tasks and heavy lifting.

Laura negotiated a six figured settlement

Following receipt of the reports Laura was able to negotiate a six figure settlement which will help the cyclist deal with her restrictions as she aged.
