Boatyard worker awarded multi-million pound settlement

A boatyard worker who was injured in a workplace fall has been awarded a compensation settlement worth £7.2 million.
Kevin Cleightonhills, who was 21 at the time of the accident, was working in a boatyard on the Isle of Wight at the time of the accident. He was standing on a metal gantry when the structure collapsed. Kevin fell feet on to a concrete floor, falling metal hit him on the head causing severe brain injuries.
Following the accident Kevin was given only a 5% chance of survival, however after extensive surgery and intensive rehabilitation he was made a remarkably good recovery. He know volunteers at a local charity shop however has been left with permanent problems with his memory and concentration, meaning he will require assistance with his needs for the rest of his life.
The size of the settlement takes into account the severity of injuries sustained by Kevin and his age.
