NEWS: POLICE INVESTIGATION INTO CROYDON TRAM CRASH

Ben Posford, Head of Serious Injury Claims at Osbornes Law represents Mr Dorota Rynkiewicz, whose wife Dorata died in the Croydon tram derailment, on 9 November 2016.

Commenting recently on the current police investigation, Ben has spoken out about his current concerns:

“It is now two and a half years since the derailment, and there is still no sign of any criminal charges being brought, and therefore no coroner’s inquest either. This is a national disgrace.

I understand reports are emerging that the delay with making a charging decision could be due to Google refusing requests from the British Transport Police for data in order to complete their enquiries.  If this is the case, then the delay is truly astonishing.

However, irrespective of any prosecution of the driver or the tram company, it remains absolutely crucial that a coroners’ inquest proceeds. This is the only way that the people responsible for running the tram service can be challenged about the systemic failures which led to this accident.

The victims’ families have many questions to ask of those responsible for the tram system and deserve a right to hear explanations.  Only an inquest will provide the platform for that to happen. The RAIB report identified a number of severe failings within months of the derailment, raising serious questions. These have yet to be answered.”
