Extension on Commercial Property eviction ban
Table of Contents
Despite the Government announcing in December 2020 that the extension of the moratorium on enforcement action until the 31st March would be the final extension, it has announced a further extension until the 30th June 2021 with further measures to be announced from the 1st July 2021.
This will buy struggling Tenant’s a further quarters relief during which they will hopefully be able to commence trading and bringing in the income that they will need to pay their rent, but may be little more than a stay of execution for those tenants who have been unable to pay their rent since March 2020 and who have been unable to come to any arrangement with their Landlords.
It is important that landlords and tenants work together to find solutions that work for both of them and that they clearly record any agreement that they reach so that there can be no misunderstanding later.
