Will Dispute Case Law

Read more2023 is a very special year for Osbornes Law as the firm celebrates turning 50. The firm has grown from a two-partner firm to one of the largest private client law firms in London, with 160 lawyers and staff.
When the firm launched our Hampstead office back in 2017, we were contacted by Mr John Wheeler, who is the nephew of William Alfred Laughton Osborn MBE, the original Mr Osborn!
William Osborn was the sole practitioner of his firm based in Camden above the tube station, which is currently occupied by HSBC. He moved his practice to 7 Parkway after the office was bombed in World War II. William sadly died in 1958 following a heart attack, which he supposedly suffered whilst working at his desk. He was only 56 years old. Mr Wheeler sent us a newspaper cutting from 1958 and through it, we learnt that William had qualified as a solicitor in 1925 and that he first practised from St Pancras in 1927. His other passion, apart from the law, was music and for some time he served as chairman and artistic director of The Bedford Amateur Operatic Society.
After his death, The Law Society arranged for the firm Warmingtons Trevor Jones to take over William’s files and his Camden office. The firm later moved all staff from the Camden office to their Piccadilly office.
Angus Andrew and Peter Kolbe were working as solicitors at Warmingtons when they decided to set up a new law firm together. They approached the firm and asked if they could buy the lease of 7 Parkway in Camden, which by this time lay empty. Warmingtons agreed and Angus and Peter decided to name their new practice ‘Osbornes Solicitors’, inspired by the the previous occupant of 7 Parkway, William Osborn. As a leaving gift Warmingtons gave them the original W.A.L Osborn plaque which they had inherited in 1958.
Osbornes Solicitors began helping clients from 7 Parkway in 1973 under the stewardship of Angus and Peter.
The original W.A.L Osborn plaque along with a picture of William Osborn is still proudly displayed today in the reception of our Camden office.
Today the firm is still based in Camden at the larger Pratt Street office and is home to over 160 lawyers and other staff. The firm along with its second office in Hampstead is one of the largest private client law firms in London, specialising in family and divorce, wills and contentious probate disputes, property law and conveyancing, including property disputes, housing and social care, catastrophic injury claims and medical negligence.
Osbornes Law is an award-winning law firm, recognised as a leading law firm in London by Chambers UK, The Legal 500, Spears, Tatler and The Times Best Law Firm Guide.
Angus and Peter were known not only as being excellent lawyers but also for their commitment to clients. Even as the firm has grown to the size it is today, this foundation stone of dedication and the highest standard of client care remains at the heart of Osbornes Law. We are immensely proud of the client feedback we receive on ‘TrustPilot’ and ‘Google Reviews’.
In addition to client care, we are committed to our people. We invest in all of our lawyers and staff, helping all to develop and progress. The firm has an impressive retention rate and is unique in that 80% of our partners are made up of internal promotions and the senior leadership team is made of partners who started their careers at Osbornes, training at the firm!
Over this very special year, we will be highlighting some of their stories, starting with partner, Mark Freedman, who joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 1993.
